Happy New Year

Happy New Year from the Miner family...Our New Year's Eve celebrations are a little tamer than they used to be...We will be in the house with the kids & Sophie eating dinner, playing the wii system (poorly of course) and watching Sophie be Sophie...Sounds like a fun night...Now on to football...I will be the 1st to admit to not being a big college football fan for the regular season but I do enjoy the traditions of the bigger bowl games...The Tito's Nasty Toe Nail Removal Shop Bowl doesn't do it for me though...Turning to the pro ranks of football, I'm not that disappointed that the Patriots got shutout of the playoffs due to the Jets & Brett Favre choking, they had a good season with all the injuries they suffered...I can't wait til next season...My picks for the Superbowl are the Giants and the Colts...Where will Archie & Mrs. Manning stand or sit at that one...I hope we will find out...Have a great 2009 & may you stick to your resolutions for at least the weekend...See you on the radio...Dan

Ho Ho Ho

I just wanted to drop a couple of lines of Christmas cheer to you, the blog reader...I'm looking forward to spending time with the family over the next few days...I can't wait to see my granddaughter, Sophie, having a blast on Christmas day...She has been under the weather for the past week and she is finally feeling better...I've got a few memories of Christmas' past for ya...When I was a younger "Danny Miner" and was an alter boy with my brother Eric in Troy at St. Francis de Sales, midnight mass on Christmas eve was always a big deal...My brother was the shortest alter boy among the guys, so he had the important duty of holding the baby Jesus thru the mass...We went thru rehearsals and we were waiting in the basement of the church to get things going and my brother was tossing the baby Jesus with another one of the alter boys like a football...One of the priest came down to see what was happening and Eric got thwacked...Funny stuff...I'm having a great belly laugh as I write this...My grandmother, the late Sally Juckett, always had a big Christmas Eve party and when I 1st started in radio in Ticonderoga, I was the low man on the totem pole and worked on Christmas Eve on the air...She called me up when I was on the air and asked me to play "her" song...So of course I did it and she would tell everyone at the party that I was playing her song, Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer...I'm still belly laughing...One more to go here...I've told this one on the air a few times...It was the last Christmas that I spent with my father in 1977...Our house in Gull Bay in Putnam had this huge ceiling that went up 30 feet next to a set of stairs...He decided to go cut our Christmas tree to go up the 30 feet next to the stairs...He didn't measure it...He got the tree into the house and it, the tree, was a least 35 feet tall, probably more...He was fueled by Genny, took out the chain saw, started it up in the house and made the necessary trims...Good times...But wait, there's more...Once the tree was in the house for a day or 2, the critters that were in the tree dormant decided to come out and infest the house...Good times...Good lessons to learn from that...I'm looking forward to making some new Christmas memories that don't involve infestations or tossing a baby Jesus around...Maybe Elmo & Patsy will get together for old time sake and write a new Christmas classic, "Papa Got Run Over By A Reindeer"...I won't mind it one bit...Have a Merry Christmas...See you on the radio...Dan

No moaing or griping here

It's 7:15 on a Saturaday morning and I'm just waiting for some more daylight to pop up so I can go out here at the Miner homestead and snowblow for a couple of hours...I refuse to complain about the moving of snow...This is life in the North Country...It's gonna snow...It's the time of the year when everyone around the Radio Ranch beats up on me about not ever watching "A Christmas Story"...I am making a serious effort to watch it but I will make no promises...I just found out a couple of minutes ago that my wife, Lisa, has not watched it either...I knew she was perfect for me...Hockey is making headlines again in Glens Falls...Here's what I have to say about it...No comment...Thanks to everyone that had anything to do with our Adopt-A-Child program and with or annual Morning Club Celebrity Auction...There are many kids that will be thanking you come Thursday morning...Thanks...See you on the radio...Dan

It's been a long time...

In know it has been awhile since I posted, Pete isn't sure whre the on/off toggle switch is. This time of the year around "The Radio Ranch" is just crazy. 800 children were adopted for the Adopt-A-Child program this year. I must send out some special Thank You's. Debbie Cameron at the GFPD. Debbie checks in all the gifts when they come in. Wendy Matthews of Operation Santa Claus. Wendy is in charge of getting the list of children to us. With everything else that goes on with Op Santa, it is a huge undertaking. Ken "The Mule" Leccese. Ken has been busy bringing gifts from the radio station over to the police station. Ken has brought over at least 15 truck loads of gifts. Dave Petta at Fitzgerald Brothers Beverages. Dave came up with the idea for the Adopt-A-Child program over 9 years ago. This program is bigger than I ever thought it would be. Thanks for getting behind this community effort Dave. And one more Thank you to all that adopted children, Thanks for all you have done. Our next big deal is our 10th Annual Morning Club Celebrity Auction. It's coming up on the 11th & 12th. Listen for all the details. I'll also put a complete listing of all the items up for auction this weekend. I have a couple of Post-Thanksgiving thoughts. NFL...Puh-leeze take the Lions off the Turkey Day games...Enough is enough...Idots that are rude during holiday shopping, check it at your door, try to be civil...I must convince my wife to cook a turkey...We had dinner at my mother-in-law's & at my parents but I really miss the leftovers and turkey sandwiches...That's it for now...See you on the radio...Dan
